Smart Shopping – Saving & donating when money is tight

Saving money is incredibly important to me as a single mama, but there are times when I want or need some things and money has to be spent. Here is where Giving Assistant comes in and, literally, saves the day. Not only do you get cashback for every purchase made at any one of hundreds of online retailers, but you also have access to a ton of exclusive deals and specific retailer tips. Oh, and you can choose to donate a portion of your cash back benefits to just about any charity of your choosing!Screen Shot 2016-07-18 at 3.44.07 PM

Giving Assistant‘s mission is to transform everyday shopping into charitable actions, by being the best loyalty program for saving more and supporting charity, with ease.

I chose to give 50% of my cash back to UNHCR to help the Syrian refugee crisis in Europe. I had an incredibly emotional response to the tragic images of children several months ago and I’ve been donating to them ever since. Now, I can donate even more because I’m saving and earning money through Giving Assistant on items I would have purchased at full price anyways.Screen Shot 2016-07-18 at 4.00.35 PM

How it works
Retailers pay Giving Assistant a commission for purchases originated from their website.
Giving Assistant then gives the customer the entire commission in the form of ‘cash back’. They also make a small donation to Feeding America to give one meal every time cashback is earned.

Literally all you have to do is login to your Giving Assistant account, find the store you are planning to shop at through their search, browse their available coupons (optional, but, like, why wouldn’t you?!) and then click through to the shop to buy what you were going to buy. BAM instant savings AND cash back after making your purchase.

To test out this system for you, I got this 26 oz jumbo “Mama  needs some coffee” ceramic mug from Bed Bath & Beyond. Fittingly, of course, because this mama seriously needs some coffee. And for this teeny $8 purchase, I got $0.32 back!

Now, I’m still trying to figure out a way to reap the cashback benefits of buying my Starbucks coffee everyday, but for now I’ve only been able to get to the online store and not the “online order to go” section. But coffee is coffee is coffee whether you buy it or brew it yourself.

When I say they have hundreds of online retailers, I’m serious. You can shop at Target, Babies R Us, Buy Buy Baby and even ETSY! Whattttt! Yea, this is seriously sweet stuff.
