Maternity Store Review
12 and 20 weeks pregnant
MOMMY MY WAY RATING – 3.5 / 5
Motherhood Maternity was the first store I visited after I began showing. The staff was extremely helpful in locating the staples for me: jeans, solid-color cotton tops and a basic cotton dress. These items have been my go-to’s for my entire pregnancy thus far. Although this store is great for the essentials (i.e. nursing bras, jeans and t-shirts) it by no means has a wide range of stylish selections to meet the needs of the fashionista mommy-to-be. Jessica Simpson’s line has some great stand-out pieces, but as this is the most commonly found maternity store across the country, the likelihood of another pregnant woman in your area with the same items is very high.
I give Motherhood Maternity a 3.5 out of 5 rating because it provided the necessities but not a lot of variety.

I was pleasantly surprised with my trip to Target’s maternity section; partly because it was the ONLY maternity store in all of Sarasota, but mainly because of its selection. The items were cute, fashionable, comfortable and affordable. My 5’2 and relatively thick stature does not do well with maxi dresses / skirts, but there were a lot of these options available to choose from for those who are able to pull off the look.
I found myself saying, “oh my gosh this is so cute” numerous times, but left the items after trying them on. Some blouses were extremely long to accommodate growing bellies, but didn’t take into account tinier women. Had they been only a few inches longer, they definitely could have worked as dresses, and I probably would have bought a few more pieces than I did. In the end, I walked away with a few sweaters and long sleeve shirts for the cooler months, a structured dress that I can wear to work and a swim suit, as it was still warm enough for the pool and sunshine.
Target’s maternity section gets a rating of 3.5 out of 5 because they styles and prices were right in line with my tastes but finding the right fit for my height was a struggle.

Knowing that venturing to the west coast would offer me new store options with a different sense of style, I was very excited to find this boutique close to my hotel. The owner was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. He had items from brands all over the world including Australia and the UK. There were so many fashionable pieces that would be perfect for work or an event and were also versatile for both during and after pregnancy.
I purchased a nursing dress, nursing bra, blouse, and sweater. Even though I was extremely happy with their selection, the prices were much higher than the stores I had visited previously. For this reason, I give Nest Maternity a rating of 4.5 / 5 as I do recognize that this is a boutique and would expect to pay more of a premium.

Mamagama World is an online maternity store based out of Hong Kong that sells the cutest graphic tees for pregnancy. The shirts are so comfy, yet cheap, and shipping is free too. I have purchased three of their shirts so far: beach ball, fish bowl and pumpkin, and plan to get a few more for the holidays as well since I will still be preggo.
I found Mamagama on Instagram @mamagamaworld and fell in love with their ideas. They are a relatively new store and strictly online, which makes me a one of a kind when I wear their shirts. The only issue I have with them is they are so new that they don’t ship their new designs until so close to the actual holiday they represent that you don’t really get a lot of use out of them. Example: my pumpkin shirt didn’t ship until Sept. 30 and so I just got it in the mail a few days ago. I’ll probably only wear it two or three times before Halloween is over.
Mamagama World gets a 4 out of 5 rating because their designs are so unique, adorable and inexpensive but they don’t have the long term practicality that a more traditional maternity store would have.
